PURPOSE
Support SQL Server Databases and interface closely with Senior Management to develop processes that support strategic plans and process improvement
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure prompt resolution of IT issues (with regard to IT solutions, services, or processes) to prevent problem from recurring
  • Identify opportunities to bring in new technologies to improve systems that help increase competitive advantage for business & technology
  • Ensure proactive, timely communication between all parties, including prompt follow up as needed.
  • Maintain awareness in developments in computer technology, industry tools and activities, which may require travel to other Quintiles offices or established training centers.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with site staff, peers, senior management, clients, vendors, customers, and trading partners.
  • Align process improvement procedures with business processes and Information Technology (IT) methodologies to identify business opportunities that leverage technology, reduce costs, and increase staff productivity.
  • Perform other duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Experience working on SQL Server 2008R2, 2012, 2014 and 2016
  • Experience with Oracle 11g & 12c will be good but not mandatory
  • Installation, Administration, Maintenance and Troubleshoot of SQL Server Instances.
  • SQL Server / Database upgrade and patching (Service packs & hotfixes).
  • SQL Server High Availability (Always on, Cluster, Mirror & Log shipping)
  • Database Backup, Recovery and Disaster Recovery procedures.
  • Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Design, architect, and build databases based on the application / business requirements.
  • Proactive monitoring of SQL Server / Database health - availability, reliability, performance, stability, recoverability and capacity planning.
  • SQL Server tuning skills using Profiler, Index Tuning Wizard, Dynamic Management Views and Functions (DMVs), and other third-party tools Knowledge of SQL Server Management Studio and Business Intelligence Development Studio.
  • Planning and implementing SQL server security and database permissions.
  • Find, troubleshoot & resolve long running queries, blocks & dead locks.
  • Troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention.
  • Automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
  • Writing T-SQL and stored procedures and query tuning.
  • SSIS, SSRS & SSAS installation, maintenance and Report development.
  • Maintain data integrity and security
  • Independently analyse, solve, and correct the issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
  • Good understanding of Microsoft operating systems as needed to manage SQL Server databases.
  • Experience in a global, complex and highly virtualized IT environment

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field; and 6 years IT experience support a large environment 1000+ MS SQL databases, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
