Job Description

Position Purpose:

Develops and implements the medical affairs/medical science liaison (MSL) offerings growth strategy including business case with investment plan,  pricing/revenue/
profitability forecast estimates and go-to-market strategy.   Provides professional and scientific guidance for the establishment and implementation of medical strategies for MSL teams. Leads and directs MSL managers ensuring high quality project, customer and team objectives are accomplished. Assures compliance according to North American laws, regulations, codes and guidelines as well as corporate procedures.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Leads IQVIA strategic direction for the portfolio of offering management decisions within the medical affairs/medical science liaison (MSL) service area.
  • New Offering Development/Enhancements:  Plays lead or review role within the IQVIA offerings development process to define, develop new service line/
    enhancements.  Identifies opportunities for service line in areas of responsibility across region, business lines and/or services. Provides direction/completes necessary marketplace/client research that support business case and inform planning decisions.  Develops the business/financial case including revenue/profitability estimates.  Secures funding approval for offers, acquisitions and/or partner channels to accelerate portfolio expansion and market potential. 
  • Offering Build: Develops/leads cross functional teams to ensure that the offerings meet customer needs, are economically and technically viable and are deliverable.  Develops costs and trade-offs, start vs. stop vs. enhance decisions/recommendations for products in development to deliver the maximum value from the offering portfolio within agreed development timescales and constraints.  Create and maintain multi-year service line life cycle plans to drive increase visibility, value and utility of new and existing service line/offer. Ensures alignment between development decisions and actual product plan and customer targets/expectations. 
  • Go-to-Market Strategy:  Develops go-to-market plans recommendation for new offers including customer segmentation and pricing frameworks.  In collaboration with internal stakeholders, develops recommended plans and secures budget for marketing/thought leadership, collateral development and sales organization training. 
  • Manages service line mix and engages both clients and internal teams to minimize risks associated with product transition and or sun setting.   
  • Thought leadership and SME support: Is recognized as the Medical Affairs thought leader/
    service line expert for IQVIA, both internally and externally.  Recognizes impact of developments in industry that may influence IQVIA products, services or trends.  Forecasts trends, identifies potential impacts and applies knowledge to offering development and business line strategy.
  • Solution Design:  Works in collaboration with sales/business development to drive new business opportunities for medical affairs/MSLs Liaisons.  Provides subject matter expertise to assist in identifying and quantifying revenue opportunities, solution design, and implementation recommendations.  Plays a lead role in the sales process including customer discussions, presentations and gaining verbal commitment from in both new and existing accounts. 
  • Project Delivery:  Accountable for excellence in client delivery of current MSL projects and providing recommendations for organizational structure or process change to maximize service and delivery of new offering/enhancements. 

Minimum Education, Experience, & Specialized Knowledge Required:

  • Doctorate level degree required.  Minimum of 7 years of experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry.  Minimum of 3 years of direct managerial experience required, MSL or Medical Affairs

  • Fully understands medical affairs/pharmaceutical marketplace and industry knowledge and the roles and responsibilities of MSLs within the industry
  • Demonstrated business/financial/analytical acumen to develop and implement growth strategies for the medical affairs service line.
