Job Description

Scrum Master – the role (position can be based in London, UK; Plymouth Meeting, PA; or Durham, NC)

As a Scrum Master for multiple product development teams, you will facilitate the scrum processes by implementing agile best practices, promoting effective collaboration, and providing organizational leadership. In this highly visible role, you will have a strong impact on daily operations of the development team by cultivating processes and workflows that empower the team to accomplish their goals efficiently.  


You will be responsible for organizing agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, sprint retrospectives, backlog grooming, and sprint planning. Leading by example, you will promote the principles of agile development in all team activities and encourage an environment with strong collaboration, short feedback cycles, and dedication to providing demonstrable business value.


In addition to working closely with the development team, you will collaborate with Product Owners and business stakeholders to help develop and maintain the product backlog. You will assist with translating business requirements into actionable stories and tasks for the team to execute on and promote a culture of accountability, adaptability, and collaboration. As an effective communicator who values transparency, you will serve as a domain expert for the team regarding the business goals and serve as a key liaison for the Product Owners regarding sprint progress toward execution on the roadmap items.


Your typical activities might include:

  • Organizing, scheduling, and facilitating agile ceremonies, including daily stand-up, sprint reviews, sprint retrospectives, backlog grooming, sprint planning, and other meetings as needed
  • Providing agile leadership and coaching for the development team and project stakeholders regarding process methodologies, scrum practices, collaboration tools, etc.
  • Collaborating with Product Owners and other key stakeholders to identify, refine, and shape the product backlog and roadmap to support business value delivery
  • Identifying opportunities and implementing improved processes and workflows to boost team efficiency by tracking and reporting on development team metrics such as velocity, risks, burndown, cumulative flow, etc.
  • Providing visibility and transparency into daily operations for Product Owners and stakeholders
  • Facilitating the daily work of the development team by removing impediments and interferences

Qualification:

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelors or Masters degree, ideally in a highly quantitative field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics
  • 5+ years of experience as a Scrum Master (or equivalent experience with other agile methodologies)
  • 3+ years of experience in development or testing in a software development organization
  • Extensive experience using issue tracking software for project management, such as JIRA
  • Enthusiastic team player with outstanding organizational, communication, interpersonal, relationship building skills conducive to team development
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of software development processes and procedures
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) Certification preferred
