Job Description

Design Program Manager

We want to change the face of enterprise software, and need seasoned design program managers to join our Design Operations team. In our environment, the most effective program managers have been team-focused efficiency and continuous improvement wonks with an outgoing, relationship-oriented, personality. Or, as some other job descriptions put it, “passionate connectors” and “creative problem solvers” who can “communicate, connect, and simplify.” That’s basically what we’re looking for, too, plus the ability to get stuff (cough) done.

Our team is distributed, about half on-site in Seattle, and the rest scattered about the country. The realm is enterprise software within life sciences, and our users are all over the world, in different work environments, and in many different roles. This is an opportunity to make a difference in user experience at a global scale.

Grasp the vision of each project or initiative at the intersection of platform, product, and user Task and timeline management for UX/UI. Make sure everyone always knows what they should be doing, and that things are happening on time. Make sure team members have what they need, and create what is needed, at each step of the process. CRAFTSMANSHIP, CRAFTSMANSHIP, CRAFTSMANSHIP. You are the final set of QA eyes before it goes to stakeholders for acceptance. Make sure there are fewer and fewer rounds of iteration as initiatives move through the concept → release lifecycle. Sweat the details. Be the person who knows about any blockers or any red flags about resources, timeline, productivity, or quality. Clear what you can, and get in leadership’s face about what you can’t. Then be a pest about it until it’s fixed. To some extent, you will need to act as ombudsman between team members from different disciplines. Get better at what you do, and help us get better at what we do. Help us evolve our how we measure and improve our efficiency, quality, and teamwork.

  • Familiarity with a variety of methods, tools, and emerging technologies for project management. Preferably in the domains of user experience research and design, user interface design and implementation, and usability testing.
  • Working knowledge of various SDLC processes
  • Comfort working with design, engineering, and product teams at various levels of process maturity
  • Bonus points for experience as a program manager or project manager for enterprise and SaaS software in life sciences, such as CRM, marketing, digital asset management, or master data management.
