Job Overview
Under broad guidance, responsible for developing and maintaining mission-critical database code. Designs and modifies database configurations and programs to solve data processing problems in an innovate manner, expressing a solid understanding of data architecture and efficient database design. Writes complex queries and perform query tuning\troubleshooting.


Essential Functions

  • Performs database analyses and database design tasks of in the development, UAT, and production environments, including:
  • Create data definition language and SQL database objects; apply referential integrity and security enforcement
  • Write complex stored procedures, functions as well as support/enhance existing code
  • Create/modify database schema, tables, indexes, triggers, etc.
  • Administer database backup\restore programs
  • Perform code optimization
  • Perform data denormalization and database sizing and tuning, develop data archival schemes
  • Ensure databases meet required operational standards and performance levels (as measured by reliability, response time, query execution time, etc.).
  • Participates in database consultations and database design reviews.
  • Designs and develops ETL pipelines integrating various sources of data (Excel, text files, XML, SAS, and REST API sources) using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and custom ETL methods
  • Utilizes critical thinking and creativity in coordination with non-IT customers and stakeholders in the development of T-SQL database objects to meet various business requirements.
  • Creates and maintains reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Power BI
  • Design reports in Excel using Power Query and VBA
  • Monitors SQL Server Agent jobs, diagnosing runtime issues and implementing resolutions as needed.
  • Provide additional support IT testing and system validation of Cronos IT products.
  • Activities include: denormalization, developing data archival schemes, sizing, creation of data definition language and database objects, referential integrity and security enforcement and application optimization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Five (5) years of proficient experience using T-SQL (MS SQL Server) for database development
  • Two (2) years of experience using one or more of the following: SSRS, Power BI, Excel Power Query, Windows PowerShell, VBA.
  • Ability to proactively identify complex problems and develop recommended solutions
  • Ability to document requirements-gathering and feasibility analyses in a collaborative team environment
