Job Summary:

The Lead Scientist will be responsible for the development and validation of molecular assays requiring isolation of nucleic acid and detection using amplification, nucleic acid sequencing, genotyping, or gene expression analysis. The ideal candidate will have a background in molecular biology, oncology, immunology, and/or human genetics, as well as strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Develop and validate molecular assays using genomic technologies such as DNA sequencing, amplification, genotyping, and gene expression analysis.

  • Apply proficiency in nucleic acid (DNA, RNA) extraction methodologies involving liquid and tissue specimens/samples.

  • Evaluate new genomic technologies and drive their implementation within the assay development team.

  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in molecular biology, oncology, immunology, and/or human genetics.

  • Serve as a technical or scientific lead on internal and/or client projects while contributing ideas and perspectives in client discussions.

  • Handle biological samples, including bacteria/viruses requiring BSL-2 containment.

  • Create and review experimental designs, protocols, plans, procedures, product/process documents, and reports to achieve departmental objectives.

  • Independently execute defined protocols and procedures, creating technical reports on feasibility and validation projects.

What We Are Looking For:

  • BS/MS degree or educational equivalent in cell biology, molecular biology, oncology, immunology, human genetics, or related field with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

  • Other equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.

  • Experience with molecular biology techniques including high-throughput DNA sequencers, genotyping, and Real-Time PCR equipment.

  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and bio-statistical software.

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed for This Role:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, frequent standing and walking, occasional sitting, close eye work requirement (computer, typing, reading small prints). Physical demands vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks. Occasional exposure to cold temperatures.

  • Strong understanding of risk management concepts with the ability to assess product, process, project, and schedule risks.

  • Skilled at navigating online biological databases including NCBI (e.g., PubMed, Entrez), EMBL, and Sanger.

  • Effective communication skills and demonstrated ability to influence tactical decisions within assay development and across functions.

The potential base pay range for this role, when annualized, is $76,300.00 - $127,100.00. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time). Dependent on the position offered, incentive plans, bonuses, and/or other forms of compensation may be offered, in addition to a range of health and welfare and/or other benefits.
