From help desk to brand strategy: A 30-year journey of reinvention at IQVIA

Jon Deutsch’s career journey at IQVIA from IT to communications to global brand strategy is a case study in what’s possible when curiosity meets opportunity.

You may have never heard of Jon Deutsch, but you’ve definitely seen his fingerprints on IQVIA.

Over the past three decades, Jon has quietly shaped how the company shows up in the world — from the early days of our first website to the global brand experience that exists today. He’s one of those colleagues who’s contributed to so many milestones that his impact shows up in places most people don’t even realize.

But Jon didn’t set out to build a multi‑chapter, cross‑disciplinary career. Curiosity, a desire to make a tangible impact and a company that embraces exploration led him there.

An unexpected career journey

Jon joined IMS Health in 1995 on the IT Help Desk, about two decades before the company would evolve into IQVIA through its merger with Quintiles. When IMS set out to create its first website, Jon raised his hand. The momentum from that early win propelled him into building the company’s first global intranet — a pivotal effort that linked colleagues worldwide and pulled Jon into new areas of the business.

His newfound visibility opened the door to corporate communications, where he helped improve digital experiences and bring consistency to the company’s online presence. Over time, those responsibilities expanded into digital marketing, where Jon shaped IQVIA’s website and social strategy for 15 years.

“In my marketing role, I discovered that I not only had a technical aptitude, but I also had a mind for branding — and quickly learned that building brand assets to showcase all the great things the company was doing was rewarding work,” he said.

That mind for branding led to a transition into enterprise marketing, where Jon found the perfect blend of technical understanding, strategic thinking and creative instinct. Today, as senior enterprise marketing director, he leads IQVIA’s global brand experience and narrative — work that continues to influence how the company presents itself to the world.

The environment that shaped Jon’s career

Jon’s journey was not only shaped by the breadth of roles he’s held, but also by the environment that made them possible.

“People ask if I’m a technical person or a business person,” he says. “I’m both. And IQVIA gave me the flexibility to explore that.”

Throughout his career, he found leaders willing to take chances on him, opportunities that stretched his skill set and a culture that didn’t expect him to “pick a lane.” Instead, he was encouraged to let his interests evolve and follow the work that energized him.

“I’ve been fortunate to work at a company that allows employees to explore so many different ways to contribute,” he says. “Not every organization creates that kind of space.”
