PURPOSE

Lead and direct the functions and services of the Early Clinical Development group. Develop and implement plans to ensure the efficient and safe allocation of human, material, system and fiscal resources for assigned areas of accountability. Actively lead the Early Clinical Development Management Team, developing strategic goals and objectives that are operationally aligned with IQVIA priorities. Actively participate in the Project Leadership Leadership Team (PLLT). Lead global and local strategic initiatives working with senior management globally and across disciplines to develop and execute implementation plans.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As leader of the Early Clinical Development Management Team, formulate effective strategic goals and objectives. Take ownership of assigned strategic initiatives including development of measures for success.
  • Develop and execute plans to ensure the efficient allocation of human, material and fiscal resources for assigned areas of accountability. Take a leadership role in the budget development process, monitor the execution of the budget through analysis of ongoing results, institute fiscal action plans when necessary and ensure that local and global Phase I financial targets are met.
  • Participate in proposal and budget development and sales/proposal presentations, evaluate feasibility of potential Phase I/IIa programs and impact on company operations and goals; negotiate and make decisions on behalf of the organization. Act as a senior Phase I contact for key clients to build closer collaborative relationships, manage study related challenges and to achieve exemplary customer service. Develop and maintain a strong network of key opinion leader relationships.
  • Ensure that clinical studies are conducted in accordance with SOPs, current regulations and guidelines and delivered on time, within budget and to the Sponsor’s satisfaction.
  • Drive quality and process improvement initiatives related to corporate or departmental strategic plans.
  • Lead and develop a team of professional experts and managers to assure business delivery and results. Manage staff in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable regulations. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and guiding professional development; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing employee relations issues and resolving problems. Approve actions on human resources matters.
  • Lead and direct managers to develop staff along career progression goals and strategic unit and corporate priorities.
  • May serve as Site Head, Country Head and/or Joint Venture Oversite.
  • Manage staff in accordance with organization’s policies and applicable regulations.
  • Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and guiding professional development; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing employee relations issues and resolving problems. Approve actions on human resources matters.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • In depth knowledge of the drug development process with particular emphasis on early clinical development
  • Proven leadership skills within a scientific organization
  • Sound understanding and knowledge of the CRO environment and the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry
  • Strong commercial orientation and sound business management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven track record of successful man-management
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, managers and clients

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree / higher degree preferably in life sciences or equivalent qualification.
  • At least 15 years relevant industry experience with no less than 10 years in a leadership capacity; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Extensive use of telephone and face-to-face communication requiring accurate perception of speech
  • Extensive use of keyboard requiring repetitive motion of fingers
  • Regular sitting for extended periods of time
  • Occasional travel required
