Job Description

Responsible for global operational alignment, leadership, and direction of laboratory testing and delivery in accordance with applicable clinical laboratory regulations.  Ensures harmonization of operational structures, procedures, and metrics across the central labs network. 

  • Oversee the global operations of the clinical testing function of the laboratory organization. Ensure that laboratory operations meet or exceed all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and implement a global operating model, liaising with Central Lab and Q2 Solutions leadership to ensure effective delivery. 
  • Ensure that the highest standards of quality and customer service are maintained.
  • Lead the collaboration with Quality Assurance on development and implementation of effective programs.
  • Lead efforts to monitor outside proficiency testing program as required; take corrective action promptly when results are unsatisfactory.
  • Ensure that local operational lab Directors establish and implement effective staff selection and training programs to meet operational demands, regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Partner with the GM, Global Central Labs to develop and implement global operating budget. Accountable for global lab ops profitability and efficient operations.
  • Keep abreast of new technical developments. Implement new tests, equipment, programs and/or procedures in the department as needed. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to increase quality of services and operational efficiency.
  • Foster a unified global culture and facilitate collaboration, cooperation, sharing of information and teamwork. Lead global initiatives to improve employee engagement to positively impact operational results, customer satisfaction and employee retention.
  • Manage staff in accordance with organization’s policies and applicable regulations. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and guiding professional development; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing employee relations issues and resolving problems. Approve actions on human resources matters.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • In depth knowledge of clinical testing procedures and applicable laboratory testing regulations, preferably from within Q2 Solutions Central Labs.
  • Working knowledge of quality assurance and quality control principles and in depth knowledge of company-specific program requirements
  • Knowledge of occupational safety and health rules and regulations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to effectively present and articulate strategy to senior leadership

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in a health sciences field and 12 years relevant experience including 3 years managing staff; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Applicable certifications and licenses as required by country, state, and/or other regulatory bodies

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Extensive use of telephone and face-to-face communication requiring accurate perception of speech
  • Extensive use of keyboard requiring repetitive motion of fingers
  • Regular sitting for extended periods of time
  • Work is performed in a laboratory environment, full manual dexterity and visual acuity required
  • May be exposed to potential physical harm from hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, toxic materials, toxic gases, electrical hazards, dangerous tools and equipment
  • Occasional global travel
