Collaboration for Oncology Data in Europe (CODE)


This is a unique opportunity to be part of an ambitious initiative that will establish the first comprehensive long-term Oncology Data Network across Europe.


It is our belief that availability and transparency of treatment data lead to improved patient care. As such, in collaboration with leading pharmaceuticals and in consultation with healthcare professionals, governments and patient groups, QuintilesIMS is leading the development of a pan-European information infrastructure to collate comprehensive, up-to-date and validated data on how anti-cancer medicines are used in clinical practice. Working with healthcare data providers across Europe, this initiative will enable the oncology community to keep pace with innovation and derive the greatest value from anti-cancer treatments.


Position Summary


We are recruiting an experienced lead data integration engineer who will be part of an expert technical team responsible for data extract, transformation and loading between different systems and databases, and on a number of key large scale projects. The data is primarily in the areas of medical, pharmaceutical and life sciences, and as such, requires a strong understanding of related security considerations and practices.


Responsibilities


Providing expertise in data extraction, transformation and loading from and into multiple systems:

  • Contributes to definition of architectural design, standards and policies; reviewing, ensuring adherence and providing feedback and recommendations
  • Understands and designs automated data transfers securely, and with traceability / auditing to industry best practice standards
  • Refines, clarifies and ensures accuracy of interfaces provided by third parties.
  • Collaborates with Systems Analysts identifying key data and metadata residing in source systems to meet project requirements
  • Leads the designs of robust ETL & data integration processes across multiple disparate systems and databases
  • Authors design documentation including logical and associated physical data models, mappings, data flow, UML & Entity-Relationship diagrams
  • Reviews, evaluates and contributes to Data Quality control, Middleware, and Master/Reference data management solutions
  • 4th Line support of ETL, middleware and other software deployed centrally and at healthcare locations
  • Participates in test definition, and oversee testing activities
  • Participates in technical work stream planning, monitor/review risks

Supervising data integration engineers in European countries to deliver work to specified standards:

  • Onboards and coaches data integration engineers across European countries, including:
    • creating training materials
    • documenting best practices, standards, procedures and policies
    • training new team members
    • providing on-going support and guidance for team members to ensure adherence to practice, policies and procedures (some travels to European countries expected)
  • Acts as the central point for the collection and dissemination of shared learning across in‑country deployment teams
  • Provides career development feedback as part of matrix/functional management of team members

Required Skills & Experience


  • At least 7 years of professional information technology experience
  • Extensive experience of data Extraction, Transformation and Loading with at least one of:
    • Healthcare Integration engines e.g. Mirth, Rhapsody, Ensemble
    • Modern open-source ETL tools e.g. Talend, Pentaho, Mulesoft
    • Enterprise ETL tools e.g. Informatica PowerCenter, Oracle Data Integrator
  • Proven experience with JavaScript and/or Java
  • Comfortable working with XML data and XSD Schema
  • Experience with Event-driven Messaging and SOA approaches
  • At least one RDBMS (Oracle preferred)
  • Able to develop queries/procedures in SQL (e.g. PL/SQL, T-SQL)
  • Exposure to both Windows and Linux environments
  • Strong understanding of general software development approaches and principles: Waterfall, Iterative, Test-driven dev, Source Control, Testing Experience of Master & Reference Data Management
  • Experience as a technical lead or lead developer/engineer

Preferred Experience


  • Exposure to healthcare \ life sciences \ clinical trials \ pharmaceutical data is highly preferred
  • Experience with HL7 based data exchange would be beneficial
