Role purpose

This role will offer you the opportunity to support the Health Economics team. This role requires capabilities in the preparation and analysis of (patient-level and aggregate) data, according to agreed protocols and statistical analysis plans as well as leading more than one project running in parallel. Typical projects include (network) meta-analyses, survival analyses, retrospective data analyses, but also could include advanced economic models (e.g. dynamic transmission models for infectious diseases), depending on the background and experience of the analyst. The audience for these analyses will be various life-sciences customers as well as healthcare payers, providers and regulators.  The successful candidate will have excellent skills in the presentation of analyses and in the communication of their findings, be that in tabular, graphical or descriptive form.  You will support the design of these type of studies, provide input into proposals, protocols and statistical analysis plans (SAP), as well as, helping to ensure high quality outputs by contributing to the preparation of the data, the R/SAS/WinBUGS/STATA scripts, quality control of deliverables and interpretation of the results.


Qualifications and Skills

  • BSc or equivalent in statistics, biostatistics, (applied) mathematics
  • MSc or PhD or equivalent in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, (applied) mathematics

    or related discipline or equivalent work related experience

  • Some prior experience working in a consultancy, CRO, pharmaceutical/biotech companies or other service sector in the healthcare industry
  • Strong statistical programming skills in R and one of the WinBUGS, OpenBUGS, JAGS or similar
  • Experience with generalized linear models, Bayesian statistics and survival analysis
  • Experience with project management in a consultancy, CRO or other service sector in the healthcare industry
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with fluency in English
  • Good team-based interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to check own work so that drafts are delivered to a high quality
  • Strong time-management and organisational skills
  • Attitude to work well as a team member and to build and manage relationships in a multi-cultural environment
  • Enthusiasm for statistics, including a flexible & problem-solving mindset

Preferred Qualities

  • Good understanding of network meta-analysis studies is a plus
  • Good understanding of economic models for health economic evaluation (e.g. Markov models) is a plus
  • Good command of SAS, STATA and Visual Basic (VBA) for Excel
  • Understanding of retrospective patient-level studies (including database analyses)

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to writing of study proposals, including statistical analysis sections
  • Conduct evidence synthesis by means of meta-analysis, indirect treatment comparison or network meta-analysis (frequentist or Bayesian) using patient-level and/or aggregate data (e.g. from literature review) using R, WinBUGS/OpenBUGS or JAG
  • Conduct survival analysis using R or SAS
  • Specify and/or extract data from databases using SAS/R; prepare and analyse datasets according to study protocol and SAP
  • Write and present results of analysis appropriate for the intended audience
  • Assist in the dissemination of any clinically relevant findings through articles, posters and presentations
