Engineering manager – Python

The Solutions Development team here at Linguamatics (an IQVIA company) are building products on top of our world-class NLP platform, I2E. These products bring the power of text mining to the life sciences and healthcare sectors, helping doctors, nurses, and researchers to understand the underlying meaning within the vast quantities of text that they have at their disposal.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced senior Manager or Technical lead Python developer who wants to make a difference to the health of the world.

This opportunity is flexible to remote working in the UK or Poland, though remote team members should keep hours that maximize the overlap with the UK head office.



Responsibilities will include:

•Design and development of server-side technologies to scale and deploy Linguamatics’ core NLP algorithms into new use-cases, using Python, Django, Django REST framework, and other tools.
•Working across multiple teams to create new internal or customer-facing solutions supporting the life science and healthcare sectors.

•Occasional design and development of web applications with brilliant UX and design in JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and Express.
•Occasional integration of Linguamatics products with third party technologies.

Core Requirements

To get the most out of working at Linguamatics, our ideal candidate will have:

•A desire to keep learning and stay current with new technologies.
•The ability to reason about code and a passion for writing high-quality, well-tested code.
•Degree or equivalent experience in computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related discipline.

Technical Requirements

Our ideal candidate will have most of the following skills and experience:

•In depth experience of server-side development using Python with Django and Django REST framework or similar.
•In depth experience of building cloud-native services for deployment on Kubernetes or similar.
•Familiarity with designing and using RESTful APIs.
•Full-cycle software engineering skills, e.g. OO design, design patterns, automated testing, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
•Understanding of cloud-native orchestration & deployment tools, e.g. Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm.


Skills and Abilities


You will be a fast learner and will ideally have the following attributes:

•Managerial skills, including a strong focus on team building
•Strong communication skills, including ability to train, present and deal tactfully with clients
• Project management experience in overseeing or contributing in difficult, multi-discipline projects
•A passion for helping customers and solving their problems
• Experience leading a technical team of 5- 8 Skilled engineers
•The desire to become an expert in all technical aspects of Linguamatics products
•Expertise in in Python and/ other modern programming languages
•Pro-active, problem-solving attitude and the ability to drive things forward on your own
•Attention to detail and the ability to work calmly under pressure
•Degree or postgraduate qualification in a numerate discipline or equivalent commercial experience.
•Some familiarity with life sciences or healthcare informatics applications would be beneficial but isn’t essential
