Biomedical Data Curator (Cambridge, UK)

We’re on the lookout for a Biomedical Data Curator to join the Ontology team working on resources for a flagship product, I2E, which provides agile, high performance enterprise text mining, and enables rapid discovery of new intelligence from text. Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Ontology/terminology biocuration in the fields of diseases/disease coding, genes/proteins, chemicals and drugs/medicines on data extracted from scientific literature, clinical trials, electronic health records and other documents
  • Help extend and develop domain specific terminologies
  • Develop and communicate protocols and guidelines as necessary to enable other contributors to participate in data curation and review tasks
  • Build and maintain resources to assist our customers in using I2E, especially in life science and healthcare applications
  • Deliver high-quality solutions on-time
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively within and across teams

Our ideal candidate:

  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience in a biological science, life sciences, biology, biochemistry, genetics, or bioinformatics, with a particular interest/experience in data curation
  • Academic or commercial experience in biology, genomics, bioinformatics, ontologies, or related area
  • Knowledge of text mining and/or enterprise search and life science information resources, such as PubMed, Electronic Health Records (HER), full text articles, etc.
  • Knowledge of structured data and ontologies
  • Ability to work to deadlines whilst maintaining quality and attention to detail
  • A pro-active attitude with good communication and team-working skills

Bonus points for having:

  • Knowledge of programming, e.g., Python
  • Familiarity with the software life cycle and commercial development
