IQVIA - Background

Around the world healthcare stakeholders are working to improve patient outcomes through treatment innovations, provision and better access to healthcare. IQVIA provides the information, technology and service solutions they need to drive new insights and approaches. With a global team of 60,000, we harness insights, commercial and scientific depth, and executional expertise to empower clients to achieve some of their most important goals: improving clinical, scientific and commercial results, realising the full potential of innovations and ultimately, driving healthcare forward.

We are one of only a few organisations that integrate real-world evidence, health economics, outcomes research, consulting, and health intelligence tools at the national and international levels across the healthcare value chain.

The position we are recruiting for sits within the IQVIA RWAS Global Business Unit (Real World and Analytics Solutions) which applies healthcare intelligence tools and expertise in real world evidence to deliver deep insights into the realities of healthcare delivery, patient populations, pathway design, the effectiveness of healthcare interventions and products, and value for money.

European Data & Evidence Networks (EDEN)

It is our belief that availability and transparency of treatment and patient outcomes data will lead to improved patient care. As such, in collaboration with leading pharmaceuticals and in consultation with healthcare professionals, governments and patient groups, IQVIA is leading the development of pan-European information infrastructure platforms to collate comprehensive, up-to-date and validated data on how anti-cancer interventions are used in clinical practice, and how successfully. Working with healthcare data providers across Europe, the initiatives will enable the oncology community to keep pace with innovation and derive the greatest value from anti-cancer treatments.

Technology is at the very core of our success: it enables our ambition to help connect treatment innovation to patient benefits and ultimately broaden the opportunity for individual patients to receive the therapies that are appropriate for them.

European Oncology Evidence Network (EOEN)

This is a unique opportunity to be part of an ambitious initiative that will establish the first comprehensive long-term Oncology Evidence Network across Europe.

The EOEN is an exciting internal start-up opportunity funded by IQVIA. Currently a dedicated team of 20 people across 3 countries, we will scale up as we build our network of 15 to 20 hospital-based, state-of-the-art research data repositories, staffed with local teams to drive local data conformance and curation to a universal cancer data model that is fit for precision oncology. These dedicated clinical coders, health informaticians and biostatistical programmers will run high-quality, multi-site observational-type studies on treatment outcomes and quality of care in oncology and ultimately deliver federated analytics to enable precision oncology.

This role will offer a unique opportunity to work on a novel, large, clinically rich data set in oncology as a key member of a small, dedicated hospital-based team. The audience for these analyses will be varied, including clinical teams, service managers, academics and life-sciences customers.

The purpose of this role is to facilitate the study of a broad set of interesting analytical and statistical questions that are directly related to care delivery and patient outcomes. This role will provide exposure to additional aspects of data set management and enhancements, including both exploratory approaches to insight generation and the design and development of management reports and dashboards.

The successful candidate will contribute to all stages of retrospective database studies, including:

  • Study design:
    • Help choose appropriate approaches, data management, analytical and statistical design to meet study objectives
    • Contribute to writing of study proposals, including statistical analysis sections
    • Contribute to / write SAPs, specifying for table shells and figures as required
  • Data preparation and management:
    • Extract data from databases (SQL) and write code to prepare analysis of datasets according to study protocol or SAP
  • Project documentation and procedures:
    • Document processes for data extraction, organisation and storage
    • Develop procedures for efficient data extraction and re-use of code
    • Develop data dictionaries etc. as required
  • Reporting:
    • Assist in the write-up and presentation of the results, as appropriate for the intended audience

  • Prior experience and comfort with working with large-scale data relating to healthcare
  • Strong MS SQL programming experience
  • Strong SAS programming skills and experience of creating tables and figures in SAS
  • Able to undertake data quality checks and prepare cohorts using real-world databases
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively within and across diverse teams
  • Able to effectively manage multiple tasks under tight timelines

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with working with large real-world cancer healthcare data
  • MSc (or equivalent) in Medical Statistics, Bio-informatics or a related field
  • Experience working with prospective and/or retrospective oncology studies
  • Experience working in close collaboration with clinicians
  • Experience and knowledge of current issues in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

We know that meaningful results require not only the right approach but also the right people. Regardless of your role, we invite you to reimagine healthcare with us. You will have the opportunity to play an important part in helping our clients drive healthcare forward and ultimately improve human health outcomes.
