PURPOSE
 
Responsible for managing the product throughout the product lifecycle in support of organizational strategy and objectives. The product manager owns the product strategy, roadmap, and feature set definition for assigned product or product line.  The product manager leads the cross-functional team to ensure market, business, and product requirements are developed into value-added, differentiated products for customers. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works within a highly matrixed organization, to develop, lead, and manage the product strategy, roadmap and feature definition for assigned product or product lines; responsible for defining the ‘why’, ‘what,’ and ‘when’ of the product that the IT and business teams will build;
  • Conducts research and analysis of market, competitors, technologies and customer trends and needs; articulates the opportunities for product innovation and enhancements with sound business case(s); collects, curates, and promotes the most relevant ideas into products/product features; incorporates key feedback and requests seamlessly into product planning and development processes to inform product refinements and ongoing development activities/priorities;
  • Provides and determines input on product specifications and determines the short and long-term product strategy and roadmap; prepares product requirement documents and product use cases to drive product development team priorities; reviews and approves product requirements;
  • Works collaboratively with cross-organizational departments like IT, pricing, sales, customer support, quality, clinical and lab operations, project management and other key stakeholders to harness all market, customer and competitor information and insights to ensure development and seamless implementation of product requirements;
  • Takes feedback from the customer support and quality departments which are responsible for addressing customer complaints and issues effectively into the product development process to inform feature set enhancements;
  • Works with IT and business to plan and implement a master release schedule; managing features and dependencies in and across releases; and managing releases with phases and milestones;
  • Leads product development activities; represents the product line as the subject matter expert; conducts demonstrations of the product as needed for stakeholders and customers;
  • Reviews and approves product support manuals, technical bulletins and other customer communications before release;
  • Communicates effectively with cross-functional teams and the program manager; provides product development status updates to Product Development Committee, Executive Sponsor and Leadership Team and other key stakeholders as required;
  • Develops appropriate market positioning (value proposition), messaging/ proof points/differentiators, sales enablement materials for assigned product line;
  • Plans and executes the product launch for assigned product or product lines; collaborates effectively with marketing, sales and customer-facing teams to ensure internal stakeholders are trained on the product and the go-to-market plan is successfully executed; executes on marketing plan to drive demand for assigned product
  • Effectively manages product development activities against plan and budget
  • Interfaces with external agencies, internal functional departments and shared service groups as appropriate to execute agreed-upon marketing plan and programs.
  • Attends and participate in marketing and sales team teleconferences and meetings as necessary
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
  • Possess strong background and solid understanding of Biopharmaceutical and clinical laboratory industry and business trends
  • Prior product management experience/knowledge and clinical development experience preferred
  • Knowledge of clinical trial management systems, mobile and near-field communication technologies preferred
  • Prior marketing experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, CRO, or related IT healthcare field preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in software product development a plus
  • Excellent teamwork, written and oral communication skills, problem analysis and solving skills required
  • Strategic thinking and planning, customer orientation and presentation skills
  • Ability to be self-directed, prioritize opportunities and perform multiple tasks
  • Ability to maintain demanding timelines

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA preferred, and at least 10 years relevant product management experience; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience  
 
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 
  • Extensive use of telephone and face-to-face communication requiring accurate perception of speech
  • Extensive use of keyboard requiring repetitive motion of fingers
  • Regular sitting for extended periods of time
  • Occasional travel, domestic and international
