IQVIA is developing our next-generation Global Data Lake and Analytics platform to support analytics and insights against hundreds of Terabytes and Petabytes of health care data, and doing it in near real-time.

As a Senior Performance Engineer, you’re well versed in infrastructure to help diagnose complex performance challenges and will have the opportunity to work with big data technologies, Kubernetes, Containerization and the latest tech stack and tools. IQVIA is aggressively expanding its High-Performance Infrastructure comprised of many technologies including Hadoop, Containerization, Public and Private Clouds, among many other cutting-edge technologies.   The issues we face with large-scale data storage, low-latency retrievals, high volume requests and high availability are common yet complex.  


What you’ll do:

As a Performance Systems Engineer, you’ll diagnose complex end-to-end issues, including application tuning, identifying bottlenecks in Infrastructure, and diagnosing core infrastructure dependencies issues.  You’ll measure and analyze performance across multiple platforms using a wide variety of tools and performance metrics. 

Required Experience and Responsibilities (in order of importance):

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex distributed systems problems and develop solutions with a significant impact at our massive scale.
  • Dig deep into performance, scalability, capacity and reliability problems to resolve them.
  • Troubleshoot and debug Hadoop ecosystem run-time issues (Hadoop experience nice to have)
  • Communicate and integrate with a wide set of teams, including Hardware, Network, Linux kernel, JVM, Big Data vendors, and cloud vendors.
  • Solid knowledge of networking and Linux systems management. Cisco ACI knowledge a plus.
  • Experience with operating system internals, file systems, disk/storage technologies and storage protocols.
  • Understand performance characteristics of underlying server, network and storage hardware
  • Analyze complex distributed production deployments, make recommendations, and implement solutions to optimize performance
  • Strong understanding of various enterprise security solutions such as LDAP and/or Kerberos
  • Strong understanding of network configuration, devices, protocols, speeds and optimizations
  • Solid background in Database administration or design
  • Great understanding of underlying infrastructure for Big Data Solutions (Clustered/Distributed Computing, Storage, Data Center Networking)
  • Experience in or have a good understanding of other data lake technologies
  • Experience supporting Data Science teams and Analytics teams on complex code deployment, debugging and performance optimization problems
  • Expert in Linux troubleshooting tools for diagnosing issues with technologies such as Active Directory, DNS, Network, NTP, and other dependencies for Hadoop, Kubernetes, Docker-like systems.

Education, Experience, & Specialized Knowledge Requirements:

  • Computer Science Degree or equivalent work experience per below
  • 10+ years of information systems experience required, with a preference 5+ years of enterprise with Hadoop/Spark (big data not a must)
  • 5+ years of Strong Infrastructure management
  • Hands on experience with VMware, Triton, and other “virtualization” management systems is a plus.
  • Must be passionate, flexible and innovative in utilizing the tools, their experience, and any other resources, to effectively deliver to very challenging and always changing business requirements with continuous success
  • Must be able to interface with various solution/business areas to understand the requirements and support development
  • Enterprise architecture experience a plus
  • Healthcare and/or reference data experience is a plus
