Senior Data Scientist

Predictive Analytics, Real-World & Analytics (RWAS) Technology

We are looking for a creative, innovative, intellectually curious and entrepreneurial Senior Data Scientist with experience in applying Machine Learning algorithms to solve real-world problems to join our Warsaw team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of the world's leading human data science teams working with real world insights to help our clients answer specific questions globally, make more informed decisions and deliver results.



The role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Scientist who is keen to build and lead a Data Science function in Warsaw. Initially, the Data Science function will comprise two teams, each with three to five Data Scientists, with substantial additional growth anticipated over the next one to two years. This newly formed Data Science function will work closely with Data Scientists, Engineers and Consultants in London and Philadelphia to provide a diverse and exciting range of advanced machine learning solutions.

The role encompasses four broad areas of responsibility:

  • First, lead the building of the Data Science function in Warsaw, from hiring through to people management. Ensure on-going success of the function through providing mentorship and collaborating closely with senior colleagues in London and Philadelphia. Ensure the Data Scientists feel empowered, inspired and highly motivated.
  • Second, help build a Data Science team to support the delivery of the Predictive Analytics core AI offerings for US-based pharmaceutical companies. These offerings include developing algorithms to find undiagnosed patients (often patients with rare diseases) or algorithms to predict patients likely to experience rapid disease progression and / or switch therapies. These core offerings involve very large datasets (typically many millions of patients) extracted from claims and prescription data and use Python and PySpark tools and libraries as part of IQVIA’s Hadoop cloud environment.
  • Third, help build a Data Science team to support the delivery of novel AI proof of concepts. Recent examples include developing algorithms to predict disease progression in ophthalmology using integrated data from electronic health records and features extracted from retinal images, algorithms to predict upcoming exacerbations for patients with respiratory conditions based on data from a  respiratory medical device and algorithms to predict undiagnosed patients with ultra rare conditions based on data extracted from a specialist hospital clinical centre.
  • Fourth, work closely with product owners and engineers to support the creation of data engineering and analytical tools to be used on projects. This involves building prototypes and helping to shape technical requirements for engineering teams in London (currently) and Warsaw (once engineering teams are in-place). This may involve Data Scientists from either of the two teams specified above.

Ideally you will have:

  • Extensive experience developing and leading Data Science teams in the commercial sector to deliver complex machine learning solutions/projects.
  • Appetite for applying new and existing technologies to challenging problems in health care, i.e. motivated by solving the problem
  • Postgraduate degree or higher in a technical or scientific domain
  • Expertise in scientific programming languages such as Python (preferably) and R
  • Knowledge of supervised machine learning methods, such as regularised regression, ensemble tree-based models (e.g. xgboost), support vector machines, deep learning methods, etc.
  • Good grasp of classical statistical methods, such as fitting regression models, inference testing and sampling.
  • Experience working with development teams, including product owners, engineers and software developers.
  • Excellent organisation skills with an appetite for working in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English, including ability to present technical concepts to lay audiences and write analysis plans for projects.
  • A proactive, innovative and pragmatic approach to problem solving and an ability to think critically and independently, able to work as part of a cross-functional team.


Bonus points for:
 


  • Knowledge of healthcare patient-level data.

  • Knowledge of epidemiology / biostatistics, particularly analytical issues relating to studies of treatment effectiveness, disease progression, adherence, healthcare utilisation, etc.

  • Work in bioinformatics.

  • Knowledge of healthcare / life science issues involving Real-World Evidence.

  • Experience with patient-level, longitudinal data.

The data encompasses IQVIA’s access to over 530 million anonymised patients as well as bespoke, custom partnerships with healthcare providers and payers.
