PURPOSE

Assist laboratory technologists with a variety of routine clinical procedures to obtain data for use in clinical trials. Assist laboratory in processing, storage and retrieval of medical specimens.

RESPONSIBILITIES

 Perform routine analysis of patient specimens according to standard operating procedures (SOPs). Evaluate specimen acceptability upon receipt. Document all corrective actions taken. May perform secondary review of patient results when signed off as competent to do so for applicable instrument (s) and/or procedures (s).

 Maintain quality control of all laboratory testing to ensure accurate and timely lab reporting.

 Perform pending workload review periodically during the day; find pending assays and resolve outstanding work prior to completion of testing for the day.

 Receive, verify, log and track specimens upon arrival.

 Assist in maintenance of laboratory equipment.

 Assist with supply inventory functions and general clean up of laboratory workstations.

 Follow safety procedures as per laboratory SOPs.

 Participate in continuing education through self study and attendance of meetings.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 Basic knowledge of practices and principles used in the laboratory.

 Knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures and practices including standard precautions and hazardous chemical handling.

 Knowledge of general rules for safe exposure to chemical and blood borne pathogens.

 Knowledge of sterilization and decontamination procedures and hazardous waste management.

 Knowledge of laboratory equipment, instrumentation and terminology.

 Basic Computer skills

 Ability to maintain effective reporting procedures and control workflow.

 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers and clients.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 High School diploma or educational equivalent and 2 years relevant lab experience; or equivalent combination or education, training and experience.

 Applicable certifications and licenses as required by country, state and/or other regulatory bodies.

Physical REQUIREMENTS

 Work is performed in a laboratory environment, full manual dexterity and visual acuity required.

 Occasional lifting of objects up to 30 pounds.

 Extensive use of keyboard requiring repetitive motion of fingers.

 May be exposed to potential physical harm from hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, toxic materials, toxic gases, electrical hazards, dangerous tools and equipment.
