Job Summary

The Director of IT is a strategic position within the Company responsible for technology product implementation, delivery and rollout.  Defines and owns the technology delivery process, as well communication of metrics, delivery dates, needs and budget requirements to senior management.

Additional responsibilities include managing and providing a vision for all aspects of the Company’s information technology operations, including the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), the Accounting, ERP and CRM software, and the IT infrastructure in our datacenters and in the AWS cloud

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with business leadership to ensure alignment of IT project roadmap to overall business objectives
  • Plan for ongoing capacity requirements and manage the support of IT infrastructure for storage, compute and network for all EA sites globally and work with corporate IT to make sure EA’s needs are met.
  • Plan and manage software development activities for LIMS and related tools as well as bioinformatics pipelines developed and used within the company.
  • Responsible for ensuring software delivery adheres to best practices for enterprise level design, documentation coding and testing standards
  • Responsible for ensuring software delivery process adheres to regulated SDLC for GCP applications.
  • Ensure all IT related requests are implemented in accordance with approved SOPs and/or regulatory guidelines.
  • Provide end-user IT/technology support.
  • Support laboratory applications and technologies purchased from third-party vendors, as needed.
  • Ensure client data is processed and delivered in a timely and secure manner.
  • Manage large IT infrastructure of specialized Linux based HPC environment for sequencing data processing and advanced bioinformatics in on-prem and cloud environments
  • Manage the IT staff effectively, providing employees with direction, guidance and feedback to ensure IT projects and activities are completed in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and manage the annual IT budget.
  • Provide IT direction and implementation for new and existing initiatives and services
  • Drive innovation that will lead to operational efficiencies and/or improved reporting and data availability.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to define, communicate and execute a vision for the IT infrastructure and staff in support of the Company’s objectives. 
  • Excellent communication and staff management skills.
  • Excellent project management and reporting skills.
  • Experience with LIMS / workflow systems in Genomics environment preferred.
  • Experience with datacenter, infrastructure,
    SAN storage and networking concepts
  • Experience with AWS and / or Azure cloud environments
  • Experience with Microsoft Active Directory environments
  • Experience with Systems Integration planning and execution
  • Experience with all phases of the software development lifecycle
  • Experience with .NET client application development tools (C# / VB.Net, Windows Forms, SQL Server, Office Integration) preferred
  • Background in process-driven industries (e.g. manufacturing, high-throughput laboratory, etc.) preferred.

Credentials and Experience

  • Four-year degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience with NextGen Sequencing data and toolsets required
  • Experience with Illumina sequencer platforms and software tools required.
  • 10+ years experience in IT infrastructure /software engineering
  • Experience in a regulated environment (i.e. GCP, GLP, GMP, CLIA and 21 CFR Part 11) a strongly preferred.
