Associate Data Science Director – the role

The Associate Data Science Director will support product patient-level data team within IQVIA to develop insights gained from analyzing company data. The position will use large data sets to find opportunities for product and process optimization and models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action. Our data scientists have strong experience using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods, using various data tools, building and implementing models, using/creating algorithms and creating/running simulations. For this position, we are seeking several years of direct applied pharmaceutical and/or healthcare analytical experience linking various data assets together, trend analysis, predictive modeling, outlier detection and data quality evaluation techniques. Awareness of various techniques available to use in patient matching as well as understanding the changing nature of the de-identified patient data landscape is preferred. Using his or her proven ability to drive business results with their data-based insights, the Associate Data Science Director will comfortably interact and work with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams and have a passion for discovering solutions hidden in large data sets and working with stakeholders to improve business outcomes.

Your typical activities might include:

  • Provide statistical design, methodology, and project management support for commercial deliverables as well as for custom studies. May manage statisticians and statistical programmers processing study data.
  • Develop and execute tactical study plans in response to business questions, perform quantitative research through direct programming, and provide written summaries of study results.
  • Gather recommendations from cross-functional stakeholders to develop research plans, identify appropriate data sources, and provide direction in meeting internal and external client information and analysis needs.
  • Develops new applications and methodologies for existing or newly acquired data. Leads design efforts in selecting statistical methodology for use in the development and launch of new products.
  • Works on projects of complex scope where independent judgment is used within a broad range of defined procedures and practices.
  • Mine and analyze data from company databases to drive optimization and improvement of product development, marketing techniques and business strategies.
  • Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize customer experiences, revenue generation, and targeting and other business outcomes.

Qualifications for Data Scientist

  • Master’s or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or other quantitative field and 5-7 years of experience manipulating data sets and building statistical models.
  • Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SQL, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
    • Knowledge and experience in statistical and data mining techniques: GLM/Regression, Random Forest, Boosting, Trees, text mining, social network analysis, etc.
    • Experience creating and using advanced machine learning algorithms and statistics: regression, simulation, scenario analysis, modeling, clustering, decision trees, neural networks, etc.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications.
    • Experience using web services: Redshift, S3, Spark, DigitalOcean, etc.
    • Experience with distributed data/computing tools: Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Gurobi, MySQL, Hue, etc.
  • Experience working with and creating data architectures.
  • Comfortable presenting data and findings to internal and external audiences. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams.
  • Strong problem solving skills with an emphasis on product development.
  • A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.
    • Experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders.
